The sites listed below offer a hodgepodge of information--from
archaeological, biographical, and historical to political and
touristy. The sites range from the basic for those with no knowledge
of these countries to more advanced, useful to researchers since
they contain statistical information or important historical documents.

it could be of interest to researchers. It was created by a pieds-noir
who returned to France in 1982, and whose father returned in
1992. The author did leave Algeria just prior to independence,
but returned two years later in 1964. The site includes old photos
of Algeria from the 19th century.

The
history of torture in Algeria. While this site looks
principally at the use of torture in Algeria from colonialization
to the present, it also has an extensive, alphabetical listing
of links to information on the web on any subject concerning
Algeria.

and bibliography, texts and testimonies, forum and links. Jacques
Derrida is a noted figure of Algerian philosophical thought,
which includes great thinkers from St. Augustine of Hippo to
Albert Camus.
